The name Quail Hill is something of a misnomer: Rather than a single hill, the Quail Hill open space stretches from Jeffrey Road to Sand Canyon Avenue. It is the only permanently preserved open space along the San Diego Freeway between Los Angeles and Camp Pendleton, and is considered the City of Irvine’s best-known natural landmark. The Quail Hill Loop Trail is an easy (and dog-friendly) two-mile hike, but it connects with other trails that journey deep into the preserved open spaces leading to Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
